John Coltrane: Coltrane LTD Limited

LP Record When I wrote about John Coltrane on the back of the Mating Call album, I considered his previous experience playing with Eddie Vinson, Dizzy Gillespie, Earl Bostic, Johnny Hodges and Miles Davis. I wrote, “It is apparent from his employment record that he has not burst upon the scene full-blown. It is rather that he has been paying his dues for some time.” This is a time of great build-up. Film stars, TV personalities, presidential candidates, soaps for use in washing machines; they are all sold to the public in the same way. With the advent of hi-fi, the LP record boom and Madison Avenue's discovery of "jazz", musicians are also receiving similar treatment. Every other month, we are greeted with albums by new stars.
