Josef Škvorecký: Escapes - Lída Baarová

The open confession of the actress Lída Baar was captured in the book Escapes by the writer Josef Škvorecký. He published the book in his Toronto publishing house in the early 1980s. Czech Radio Olomouc recorded a five-part reading of this book. Michal Bureš took over the direction and engaged an actress who has worked mainly with German and Austrian radio - Mrs. Zdenka Procházková-Hartmann. "Mrs Zdenka is a lady who has lived a significant part of her life in Austria and Germany, so she is less known to the Czech audience. Yet she is a mature actress whose speech can evoke not only the First Republic, a very important period in Lída Baar's life, but also the subsequent dramatic moments that the heroine of our reading experienced after the war.
