Joy Division: Atmosphere - LP

Joy Division formed in 1976 in the English town of Salford, near Manchester. The quartet of Ian Curtis (vocals), Bernard Sumner (guitar, keyboards), Peter Hook (bass), and Stephen Morris (drums) originally called themselves Warsaw.

Joy Division's music grew from punk roots, and the band is still considered the most distinctive and influential post-punk band of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Joy Division recorded two studio albums, but their activity ended in 1980 when singer Ian Curtis committed suicide. From the ashes of Joy Division, another significant icon of British music was born: the band New Order.
