Joyce E. Travelbee's legacy for 21st century nursing
The idea of bringing nursing care closer to a holistic concept with the help of love for the person and support for their personal development was already in the 1960s addressed by Joyce E. Travelbee, American psychiatric nurse and nursing theorist. She emphasized that nursing needs „ humanist revolution“ with an emphasis on nursing education, during which it is necessary to abandon the disease-based concept (biomedical model of care) and move more towards holistic and in-depth care of the person.
Texts by Joyce E. Travelbee has not yet been translated and interpreted into the Czech language in such a way as to offer the Czech nursing public an understanding and appreciation of the deeper implications of her legacy. It seems meaningful that her ideas and creative work have made a significant contribution to the development of nursing and can inspire nursing theory and practice today and in the future.
The monograph is both inspiring and personally enriching in many ways for readers interested in the subject of nursing.
