Judas Unchained, the sequel to Commonwealth Saga, begins with a persecution.
The inexplicable disappearance of a star in a distant galaxy has prompted the powerful, self-confident, and peaceful Commonwealth to send an exceptional starship to investigate the mystery. The ship's arrival destroys the barrier around the disappearing star, unleashing the terrifying evil that was trapped inside. An aggressive and predatory alien species strikes immediately, hard, and without mercy.
The Primes will become the Commonwealth's worst nightmare. Coexistence with these technologically advanced aliens is impossible; the Primes are genetically determined to exterminate other life forms. Twenty-three Commonwealth worlds have already fallen victim to the Primes' invasion. And no one knows where they will strike next.
Yet the Primes are not the only threat to the Commonwealth.
For over a hundred years, the mysterious Guardians of Selfhood cult has been trying to warn of another alien threat, the cunning and elusive Starflyer, which is corroding the unity of the Commonwealth. Labelled as terrorists, the Guardians of Selfhood are outlaws on every planet, hunted to the last man by the relentless Paula Myo, who is utterly devoted to her work—fighting crime.
However, new evidence suggests that the Guardians of Selfhood were right all along. The Starflyer has placed its agents in vital positions throughout the Commonwealth, and they are now sabotaging the entire war effort and defence against the Primes. Is the Starflyer working for the Primes, or has it cunningly driven two species into a fight to the death for its own gain?
Caught between two terrifying enemies, one a brutal invader breaking in from the outside, the other a relentless disease killing from deep within, the terrified and fractured Commonwealth must unite as never before.
