Mommy wasn't always enchanted. She used to be the most wonderful mom in the world...
It's a mess and an injustice. Ten-year-old schoolgirl Julie understands these words, but she is still terrified why her alcoholic mother refused to see her and her little sister after a family breakdown. From Prague, the two girls moved to the village of Horní Zhoř, where they not only get acquainted with their father's new partner and her sons, but also build relationships from the ground up in a small classroom, so unlike the big city. Julie already understands a lot of things around her, but she still has to figure out the meaning of the concepts of execution, sex, disability or self-denial. Not to mention the situations when adults urge her to do something with stern words, while they themselves behave exactly the opposite. It's terribly vicious, and yet the disarming inner monologue of the girl heroine finds room for fun and an immeasurable desire for harmony. Julie is not going to be a last man or a loser, because she has already received a second chance and valuable advice from life: run at least halfway across the street!
The new edition of the successful children's book, for which the sought-after Czech novelist received the 2014 Golden Ribbon, has been expanded to include more of the girl's stories.
