K. J. Benes: A Life Stolen

It is the eve of World War I. The two sisters, twins Martina and Sylva, who look just like each other, live a seemingly happy and contented life. They are both equally beautiful, wear the same clothes, live in the same beautiful house, so they have nothing to envy each other. And yet. A senseless, morbid resentment begins to germinate in Martina's heart, which grows into hatred after her sister's marriage. In a tragic twist of fate, Martina is given the opportunity to take possession of everything she envied her sister. As a doppelganger, she enters the role of her sister in life, only to discover in the end that every person must first and foremost be themselves. This world-famous novel by a Czech author with a doppelganger theme is set in Prague, Vienna and a French seaside spa.
