Kabeláč Miloslav: Symfonie Komplet (4x CD) - CD
Miloslav Kabeláč completes the first of his eight symphonies in Prague in late 1942, just a few months before Martinů sits down in America to write his First Symphony for Sergei Koussevitzky and the Boston Symphony. The consequences of the Nazi occupation weigh heavily on Kabeláč: due to his Jewish wife, whom he refused to divorce, he lost his job in radio, his songs are banned and his life is in constant danger. Symphony No. 1. The breath after the occupation is very short, after 2.5 years a similarly heavy communist totalitarianism sets in. Kabeláč writes each symphony for a different cast and repeatedly draws inspiration from biblical themes. Karel Ančerl and ČF often take over the premiere with great enthusiasm; who is also a great promoter of Kabeláč's work in the world.
The last symphony "Antiphony" was composed for the Strasbourg church of St. Paul with the participation of the great ensemble Les Percussions de Strasbourg, for whom Kabeláč wrote the famous Eight Inventions. However, the concert dedicated exclusively to Kabeláč with the premiere of "Antiphons" in June 1971 had to do without the composer, who was not allowed to travel to the West. Miloslav Kabeláč is undoubtedly the greatest Czech symphonist of the 20th century after Bohuslav Martinů. It is only on this first complete recording of the Radio Symphony with Marko Ivanović that listeners can delve into the depth of his symphonic legacy.
