Kahanek Ivo: Complete Piano Works (4x CD) - CD

The name of Antonín Dvořák needs no introduction - in his homeland or in the world. But what about his piano work? The Piano Concerto in G minor has recently undergone a certain rehabilitation. Dvořák's works for solo piano, however, represent an unexplored landscape for many pianists and musicologists. What a shame! One does not hear the exuberance and finely nuanced emotionality of Chopin or the virtuosic flamboyance of Liszt. As throughout his work, Dvořák avoided ostentation. He moves in a world of subtle personal lyricism, brimming with ideas, and shapes even small pieces with the sensitivity of a genius composer. It's already worth a new complete recording. The challenge was taken up by Ivo Kahánek, whose recording of Dvořák's difficult Piano Concerto with the Bamber Symphony and Jakub Hrůša was deservedly successful, among others. at the BBC Music Magazine Awards. On the present album the listener will find larger cycles (Silhouettes, Poetic Moods and the Suite in A major, composed in America, which the author himself appreciated very much), occasional compositions, but also a few curiosities, which are filmed here for the first time ever. Among them is the polka Pomněnka, the first surviving trifle by the fourteen-year-old Dvořák. The recording of the piano work provides another rare insight into the rich inner world of Dvořák's compositional soul.
