Karel Čapek: Banish the lions!

Josef Vinklář as Emperor Diocletian, Oldřich Vízner as Lazar, Daniela Kolářová as Marta, Ladislav Mrkvička as Pilate and Ivan Trojan as Josef of Arimathea. This is just part of the great cast that director Lída Engelová has recruited for her production of Banish the Lions. The author of the script is Jitka Škápíková. She used parts of Karel Čapek's Book of Apocrypha to write her radio play. They are the stories of the Holy Night, Martha and Marie, Lazarus, The five loaves, Benchanan, Pilate's Eve, Pilate's Creed and finally Emperor Diocletian, whose conversation with Sister Antonia frames the preceding paraphrase of biblical events. You can once again listen to Čapek's beautiful Czech and enjoy his gentle humour and sense of irony and paradox.
