Karel Fořt: From New York to Hell and Back

Karel Fořt's prose debut is a raw and in many ways autobiographical account of his life's journey to freedom and his search for himself. The author's alter ego - a hero with the nickname Cheko - reveals to the reader the other side of New York. He is an insider's guide to the New York City suburbs. He depicts the harsh and poetic world of the ghetto and its peculiar inhabitants vividly and with undeniable narrative talent. It reflects the life experience of an emigrant who fell into drugs and went to prison for minor criminal offences. He sees his time behind bars as a just punishment for his transgressions and an opportunity to make amends. It gives a credible picture of the prison community.
