Karel Poláček: The Stone Table Inn

The humorous novel The Stone Table Inn was first published in 1941. It was soon well-received by readers, and even soon received a successful film adaptation (1949). Against the backdrop of a spa town, Karel Poláček played out the story of the fate-haunted owner of a famous inn, Šimon Tatrmuž, and his "sinful" wife, Božena, two typical middle-class heroes with a good-hearted but limited and naive vision of their world. Eight-part radio dramatization in unabridged form from 1961.
