To the priesthood of women
In the 1980s, it took great personal courage to open up a discussion about the role and place of women in the Catholic Church, especially driven by a desire for the priesthood. Mireia Ryšková, a future associate professor of theology and a prominent figure in the Czech Church, found a partner for dialogue in the pastor, theologian and former political prisoner Josef Zvěřin, who was already a recognized authority in the unofficial Church structures because of his open spirit. The correspondence of these two personalities is framed by other texts, including contemporary documents, which present the position of women in the Czechoslovakia of the time and contemporary church practice, moving from confessional texts of a very personal nature towards the theological, spiritual and social aspects of the question of the possible ordination of women.
