Kemel Mirek: Fish, Crayfish - CD

Kemel Mirek: Fish, Crayfish - CD
Miroslav Kemel is a long-standing leading Czech cartoonist and also a singer-songwriter. He plays the accordion, guitar and harmonica. This album, his third, takes a different direction from his previous ones. The songs deal with serious themes and feature the most elaborate arrangements in his entire discography. A crucial decision was to record the CD at All Senses studio, sound-engineered by Štěpán Škoch, a former member of the band Chinaski, who also appears as a guest on the CD. Kemel's long-time friend Vladimír Javorský also contributed to the recording, playing on and singing 3 songs on the album. The CD Ryby, raci was recorded with rich arrangements and an expanded line-up supplemented by drums. It was produced by Vlasta Konopiský and the album as a whole illustrates the band's shift towards the electric guitar and a fuller sound. It incorporates strings, brass and also a children's choir. Music is where Mirek Kemel takes a break from his main profession as a cartoonist, who follows news from home and abroad and publishes a drawing every day, which should be both topical and timeless. Music helps him survive the stress of the daily obligation to submit his drawing on time. And it allows him to delve deeper into himself, into his stories, without the need to be witty and topical.
