Kieslowski: Mezi lopatky - LP
Kieslowski's third album, Mezi lopatky (Between the Shoulder Blades), features songs about love, ageing and saying goodbye.
'Urban folk', as Marie Kieslowski and David Pomahač call their work, perfectly captures their direct way of singing about the relationship between two people. Kieslowski are stepping out of the singer-songwriter lo-fi underground, and not just thanks to Jan P. Muchow, who produced Mezi lopatky. The captivating dynamics, original arrangements, delicate beats, wit, strong lyrics and excellent sound only prove that Kieslowski is a duo that truly understands each other.
An original poetic style and perspective on the relationship between a man and a woman have always been the cornerstone of all Kieslowski's work. If anyone thought it was impossible to get more to the core of the matter or that they had exhausted the subject, they were mistaken. Kieslowski are no longer reaching for knives. They're not needed, because they don't solve much. Far more painful is separation, loneliness, silence, insomnia, or the awareness of death. Kieslowski are at peace with reality, without raising their voices or showing fear. The record therefore seems less tormented on the surface than their previous albums, yet it is very personal and the perceptive listener certainly won't be bored.
