Knights of Vřesov
In the Shadow of Kings: Bohemia in 1310
The year is 1310 and the young John of Luxembourg arrives in Bohemia to take up his rule. The country is divided. On one side are the supporters of the weak Henry of Carinthia, and on the other, the supporters of John of Luxembourg, husband of Elisabeth of Bohemia. High on the chessboard also stand Henry of Lipá and Elizabeth Richeza of Poland, the widowed queen and his mistress. Then there is Peter I of Rosenberg, the most powerful magnate in South Bohemia. However, the true heroes of this story are those about whom the chronicles are mostly silent. Those whose lives have fallen into oblivion, whose dwellings and fortresses have crumbled to dust, and today, no one remembers where they once stood...
František Niedl
František Niedl was born on 7 April 1949 in České Budějovice and graduated from the Secondary Technical School of Electrical Engineering. He has worked as an electrician, a hydroelectric power plant operator, a substation operator, a driving school instructor, and was the owner of a travel agency. He is currently dedicated to building a yacht club on the Lipno reservoir and to his literary activities. He is married and has two sons. He loves nature, motorbikes, horses, yachting, literature, and history. After the publication of the author's first novel, there was a thirteen-year pause. After the Velvet Revolution, the author preferred experiencing adventurous events in real life to inventing them in literature, and went into business. After ten years, however, he was so worn out by the adventures of entrepreneurship that he humbly returned to writing, preferring to let his fictional heroes be tortured instead. In addition to novels, he also writes short stories, which appear in newspaper supplements, are broadcast on the radio, and are also published in book form.
