A unique novel telling the story of the Wagner family as they experience the gradual decline of European civilisation
The novel is divided into two parts. The first, entitled “How It All Began,” describes the years 1984–2019 and is based on the real development of the Czech Republic and Europe. The second part, “How It Could End,” models one of the possible developments of society after 2020 in the form of a literary vision.
The family patriarch, Adam Wagner, a sociologist and expert on Orwell's work, predicts the collapse of modern society. He and his family members and friends build a protected residence, behind the walls of which they intend to defend themselves when social breakdown, economic crisis and violence occur. However, they are soon drawn into the war conflicts that will divide Europe.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN and HOW IT COULD END.
