The Pied Piper

The subject of the author's masterpiece was based on an ancient German legend. The Ratman was tasked with cleaning the city of Hameln of rat pests. The townspeople regard him as inferior and ridicule him, but he doesn't care until he falls in love with a village girl who takes him into her house. The Pied Piper drives away the rats by playing his whistle, but the councillors are still not satisfied, so they don't want to pay him. Gradually he discovers that rats were not the only filth that had overpopulated the town.
