Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett: Cheek To Cheek (2014) - CD

This September will be marked by perhaps the most anticipated album of this year! It will be a long-announced album by the legendary jazzman Tony Bennett and the pop wonder Lady Gaga. The record will appear in stores on September 19 under the name Cheek To Cheek.

The album was recorded by both music icons in New York and the whole process took more than a year. The album will contain not only duets of both artists, but also several songs that Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga recorded separately. In any case, it offers the best pieces from the history of jazz, the so-called Great American Songbook, ie such legendary jazz and swing songs as Anything Goes, It Don' t Mean A Thing (If It Ain' t Got That Swing), Sophisticated Lady, Lush Life or the title Cheek To Cheek.

A number of very exclusive musicians took part in the filming. There was also Bennett' s quartet, Mike Renzi, Gray Sargent, Harold Jones and Marshall Wood. Other guests included the excellent pianist Tom Lanier, the jazz trumpeter Brian Newman, some of the songs included the amazing saxophonist Joe Lovano and the flutist Paul Horn, who unfortunately died earlier this month.

“Cheek To Cheek arose from the very organic friendship and relationship that we have had with Tony over the years, and the whole project required a lot of joint effort. It was very important for Tony to be a jazz record. I have been singing jazz since I was a child and I really wanted to show the authentic side of this genre. We made a record of jazz songs, but they have a modern touch, “ states the address of the new Lady Gaga project.

Her words are confirmed by the first tasting of the whole album, which is the song Anything Goes. This song was written by Coly Porter for the musical of the same name in 1934 and has since undergone many different remakes (for example, by Frank Sinatra). However, the combination of Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga gives the song a whole new dimension and this song already makes Cheek To Cheek one of the most exceptional records of this year, which should definitely not be missing not only in the collection of every true jazzman, but also a fan of the divine Lady Gaga.
