Lamar Kendrick: To Pimp A Butterfly (2015) (2x LP) - LP

“To Pimp a Butterfly“ is the third studio and second album by the major label of the American rapper Kendrick Lamar. The album was recorded by Top Dawg Entertainment and Aftermath Entertainment and released on March 16, 2015. Compared to the previous album, this is enriched with elements of the funk and free jazz genres.

In early 2014, Kendrick Lamar announced that he would release his third studio album. During the year he recorded about forty new songs, on which he collaborated, for example, with producers such as Dr. Dre, Tae Beast and Sounwave. He also announced that he did not think about the success of the previous one when creating the new album.

During the summer of 2014, he recorded several songs with producer Flying Lotus. One of their collaborations called “Never Catch Me“ was released as a single for the producer' s album You' re Dead. In the end, only their collaboration with “Wesley' s Theory“ ended on this album.

In September 2014, he announced that there would be no invited artists on the new album. That was not fulfilled in the end.

On March 10, 2015, he announced the name of the album To Pimp and Butterfly via Twitter and Instagram and published the cover. The album' s title refers to the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by American writer Harper Lee. Kendrick Lamar later stated in an interview that the original name of the album was supposed to be Tu Pimp A Caterpillar, when the initial letters put the name Tupac together (a reference to rapper Tupac Shakur). Later the name was changed, the new name for Lamara symbolizes the use of his fame for a good cause and the refusal to be abused (pimped) by the heads of the music industry.

Kendrick Lamar (* June 17, 1987, Compton, California, USA) is an American rapper and two-time Grammy Award winner. He is a member of the Black Hippy group, which consists of three other rappers from the west coast of the USA, which are Jay Rock, Schoolboy Q and Ab-Soul.
