Legendary Skoda 105/120

This book is dedicated to the last generation of rear-engine Škoda cars, the Š 105/120/130 model range, whose production exceeded two million vehicles between 1976 and 1990. It recalls the four-door saloons and the two-door Garde and Rapid coupés, as well as a diverse range of now almost forgotten variants and prototypes.

Škoda 105/120 series cars were a daily sight on our streets and roads in the second half of the seventies and throughout the eighties. They had an outdated rear-engine design, their sound was unmistakable, and their quality was somewhat below the European average. But they were here, and they were part of our lives. While they were sold in the West for obscenely low prices, here at home we worked for years to afford them.

And for the most part, they served their owners for many long years. They survived the November 1989 revolution, but the drastic change in circumstances, especially in Prague and other large cities, quickly sent them into retirement. Many, however, simply moved elsewhere; in the countryside, they replaced the even older „MBs“ and „hundreds“ and began a new life.

The last rear-engine Škodas have practically vanished from the roads; only the luckiest have become collector's items. Let's appreciate them and not forget that they wrote an important chapter in our motoring history.
