Like a doe on high

“Hinds’ Feet on High Places” is a now world-renowned spiritual novel that captures a person's spiritual maturation and their transformation through the power of God's grace. Much-Afraid from the Valley of Humiliation accepts the Shepherd's invitation and sets out on a long and arduous pilgrimage to the High Places, accompanied by two companions she would never have chosen for herself. Many trials and dangers await her on the journey, but with the Shepherd's help and His grace, she not only overcomes everything successfully but also undergoes an amazing inner transformation she could not have imagined. When she then receives a new name, she returns to the Valley to give her relatives the courage to embark on a similar journey.

The third, revised edition is published in a new translation and with an addendum by the author, where we learn that the poetic work surprisingly contains many autobiographical elements.

Hannah Hurnard (1905–1990) was born in Great Britain. She later spent many years in Israel, where she worked as a missionary. Her most famous work is the allegory Hinds' Feet on High Places and its loose sequel, Mountains of Spices (Paulinky, 2003).
