Lord of the Mountains IV
The fascinating fates of the next generation of the de Braie family
Sebastian's daughter, Christina, enjoys a privileged position among her five brothers. She is proud and independent, which causes a number of problems in the French countryside of the mid-nineteenth century. After a scandalous love affair and a tragically ended marriage, she leaves for India, determined to dedicate her life to serving those most in need. Although successful and highly respected, life in the colonies does not bring her the satisfaction and peace she had hoped for. Her wild blood drives her to new adventures, passionate loves, and harsh conflicts with those around her. After thirteen years, she decides to return to France. Here, too, the situation has changed, and Christina is forced to defend her position. She is decisive and unyielding, yet she has a weak spot – her teenage son Gilbert, whom she entrusted to Sylvie's care before her departure…
Hana Marie Körnerová
Hana Marie Körnerová was born in 1954 in Litoměřice and spent her childhood in the small village of Počaply u Terezína, where her father was a head teacher and librarian. She has lived in Terezín, Litoměřice, Lovosice, Prague, Hřídelec, and Lázně Bělohrad. From childhood, she wrote 'for the drawer', but her first novel, Pán hor (Lord of the Mountains), was not published until 1993. This six-part saga, charting the history of a French noble family, immediately won her a devoted readership. Indeed, 18th and 19th-century France is the backdrop the author uses most often in her historical-adventure stories. She worked in healthcare for fifteen years and used her knowledge of the environment in the novels Prosím vás, sestřičko (Excuse Me, Nurse), Děkuji, sestřičko (Thank You, Nurse), and Co neodvál ani čas (What Even Time Didn't Blow Away). The period thriller Andělská tvář (Angel Face) served as the basis for Zdeněk Troška's film of the same name. Besides Pán hor, her best-known and most popular novels are the true stories from post-war Czechoslovakia, Heřmánkové údolí (Chamomile Valley) and Hlas kukačky (The Cuckoo's Call), as well as the five-part historical saga comprising the novels Kočár do neznáma (A Carriage to the Unknown), Třetí přístav (The Third Harbour), Druhý břeh (The Other Shore), Dlouhá cesta (The Long Journey), and Císařská vyhlídka (The Imperial View). Her books regularly appear on bestseller lists and are also among the most borrowed in Czech libraries.
