A thriller written by Michal Viewegh in collaboration with the well-known investigative journalist of MF Dnes Jaroslav Kmenta
The summer in the metropolis does not look like a cucumber season this time: in Prague 11, someone is secretly following and even physically assaulting opposition politicians and civic activists who are protesting the planned Trojmezí development, a beautiful broker named Diana from the Patria financial group is being blackmailed by the Russian mafia, and Interior Minister Stanislav Langross is prematurely releasing former lobbyist Darek Balík from the witness protection program, who is hiding compromising materials on many Czech politicians in an unknown location (especially the baldness of Deputy Defence Minister Šesták is shining with sweat more than before). Journalists from MF DNES suddenly do not know, to write about earlier, Mord, the famous Prague godfather, has to return from his yacht in Croatia in a hurry, and the assassin Ras gets another "order" from his boss in Pribram - so begins the book by the most popular Czech writer, who, after ten novels, two short story collections, three novellas, two diaries, two volumes of feuilletons, two collections of literary parodies, several film scripts, a stage play and a storybook, he comes up with a detective story for the first time. However, as is often the case with the author, this time it is only a seemingly relaxing read.
"I wanted to write a brisk and witty detective story, which, unlike less ambitious detective stories, would be a dangerously true picture of Czech reality and its mercilessly caustic satire," says Michal Viewegh about Mafia in Prague.
