Audiobook for young readers, where the author based on new paleontological discoveries told the history of Slovakia in prehistoric times
Nineteen stories about the history of prehistory and the lives of the discoverers were first published in 1983. The author had already written the first four "archaeology books" in the Uncovered History series; the fifth, The Mammoth Hunters and the Others, was born out of his fascination with the adventure that prehistoric stories brought.
The title of the audiobook is a reference to a famous novel by a Czech writer, Eduard Storch, Mammoth Hunters (illustrated by Zdenek Burian) with the addition of "and the others", because Pavel Dvořák's narrative did not stop at hunters from the earlier Stone Age, but continued smoothly into antiquity, to the very edge of the Roman chapter of Slovak history.
The audiobook was inspired by the author's enthusiasm for discovering prehistory, the unique fates of explorers and their discoveries, and his own exploration of the earliest history.
". it is an interesting book because it searches for meaning and connections of facts, but it is not factually descriptive. It is also adventurous because it does not offer ready-made knowledge, but seeks to lead the reader along the path of discovery to knowledge." Milan Jurčo, nonfiction theorist
"Dvořák's absolute strength in discovering our earliest history is the fact, the world, which, in the manner of literary archaeology, he uncovered, He did not include the unburdened documentary artifacts, but he populated it with those who were destined to live in prehistoric Slovakia and who left their human trace in it permanently.
