Man, his senses and the world
The book deals with a wide area of human sensory perception. It aims to make available medical and psychological knowledge about human senses, both known (sight or hearing) and hidden at first sight (e.g. balance sensors or deep sensing sensors). The authors deal with questions of structure and function, as well as development, disorders and diseases, ways of examining and treating human senses - from the level of cells to the level of organs. Marginally, they also deal with the history of knowledge and treatment of the sense organs or the perception of pain and pleasure. To liven things up, small "comparative excursions" into the field of animal senses are included. The authors draw on proven knowledge and choose a compromise between textbook, popular and scientific form to make the topics accessible. The chapters are supplemented with illustrations and examples of specific examination methods. The book can be used by students of many disciplines as well as by graduates or the public interested in the subject.
