Marcel Proust: Swann's Love

Swann's Love is the second part of the first volume of Proust's monumental In Search of Lost Time - At Swann's (1913). Marcel Proust evokes here a former dandy who falls in love with a woman of ill repute, Odette de Crécy. His love passes through all the phases of human joys and sufferings until it ends in cruel jealousy. The independent, compact, rich and intricate world of In Search of Lost Time emphasizes the inner life of the characters, and the novel resigns itself to classical composition. Life's skepticism eventually gives way to confidence in the value of a thing that transcends and outlives the human creator: a work of art. Translated by Josef Heyduk for radio by Jan Petrásek. Directed by Petr Adler, the cast includes Tatjana Medvecká, Pavel Soukup and Otakar Brousek Jr.
