Marilyn Manson: Mechanical Animals (1998) - CD

“Mechanical Animals“ is Marilyn Manson' s third full album, released on September 15, 1998.

Compared to Marilyn Manson' s previous work, Antichrist Superstar, Mechanical Animals is far less dark on an aesthetic level, but still much more gloomy overall. In terms of image and music, Mechanical Animals 1970 is inspired by the Bowie-esque glam rock style.

Musically, many songs are much lighter than in the melodies on the Antichrist Superstar and are much less sonically harsh. But the lyrics are much more gloomy than its predecessor. Compared to most of the band' s work, the musical arrangement is much more complex than anything the band has released before or after.

On the album, the songs are divided into two parts, which show two sides of the album' s character. The first part is more emotional and the songs deal with the themes of alienation and depression. Then seven of the fourteen songs are perspective, music and lyrics by a fictional group called Om? ga and the Mechanical Animals, while the remaining seven are by Marilyn Manson. Omega songs are usually more nihilistic and lyrics superficial, such as “New Model No. 15, “User Friendly” and “The Dope Show”. The album cover is created as dual line notes, in which one half are lyrics to Omega songs and after turning the page are Alpha tracks.
