Markovič: Ghost Hunter - 2nd Edition
Cases that changed Czech Criminology
They were exceptional and exceptionally cruel cases. When the criminalists first stood at the murder scenes, over the battered bodies of the victims, the unknown perpetrator seemed like a distant phantom. A monster with an incomprehensible mindset and even more twisted actions… What was the reality?
The professional career of police investigator and head of the Prague homicide squad Jiří Markovič is lined with sexual murders above all. The case of the five-time murderer Hojer or the case of the so-called Spartakiad strangler Straka have already entered the already blood-stained pedestal of Czech criminalistic history.
Markovič also solved the brutal murder in the Hodkovičky forest – which at the time inspired screenwriter Jaroslav Dietl, just as it changed textbook canons about the supposed perpetrator profile. We will also learn the merciless truth about the double murder in Prokopské Valley. About the murder in the U Dvou koček restaurant, which resulted in a legal marathon.
About the psychopath Vocásek, the first lifer, who is now trying to fight his way to freedom. We visit crime scenes, autopsy rooms, psychiatric facilities… Our expert guide will be the Ghost Hunter.
What they wrote about the book:
An open confession from a criminalist who has to work with the perpetrators and perceives them completely differently from ordinary people. It portrays the realities as detectives encountered them, pointing to the depths of humanity and the shattered psyche of many a convict.
- We read Czech authors
And suddenly you see the figure of investigator Jiří Markovič, who (...) decides to inwardly merge with the character of the accused. It's a big risk. You invest a lot emotionally, you have to look into the abyss – and the abyss will look back at you – but it also allows you to gain the person's trust, extract information from them, and build a true picture of how the case came to be.
- Jaroslav Hruška, screenwriter and producer of the series Markovič Method
