Matthias Gallas (1588-1647)

For the first time ever, Czech readers have the opportunity to read the biography of this leading military figure of the Thirty Years' War.

Matthias Gallas, originally an Italian nobleman, has entered our history not only because that in 1634 he was appointed commander-in-chief of the imperial troops operating on Czech territory, but also because that after Valdštejn's murder he received his huge estate (Frýdlant, Smiřice, Liberec ad. ). Thus the Gallas family settled permanently in Bohemia, from the second half of the 18th century as the Clam-Gallas family.

The book vividly depicts the dizzying career of the general, who became known as an excellent strategist, but on the other hand earned the nickname "kazivoj". Together with him, we will walk through the theatres of war where he commanded and experience the horrors that the fury of war brought. The text is enlivened by a colour appendix.
