May Stars - DVD

Four small stories of ordinary people at the end of the war set in May 1945.

The first tells the story of a Soviet general who meets a young boy, Dusan, who awakens painful memories of his wife and children he lost during the war.

The second is about the tender love that develops between Lieutenant Rukavichkin and a country schoolteacher.

The third story is dedicated to the character of Mr Novák, who has returned from the concentration camp in Auschwitz.

The last story is about a Ukrainian soldier trying to persuade a tram driver to let him drive.

The lyrical short stories are sensitively linked into a whole and although they do not follow each other in the book, the film manages to connect them through the chance encounters and passing of individual characters. The acting performances are not lagging behind either, and they feel genuine. The film is one of the most successful co-productions in our film history.
