Mazzy Star: So Tonight That I Might See (1993) - CD
Mazzy Star is one of the most interesting music groups representing the shoegaze / dreampop style in the United States at the turn of the 80' s and 90' s of the last century. The band was founded in 1989 by guitarist David Roback and singer Hope Sandoval.
The first official album She Hangs Brightly was released in 1990 and the style where it could be included oscillates between melancholic guitar folkpop, psychedelic rock and tones of delta blues and hard rock. The lyrics are full of gloomy stories about “unhealthy“ interpersonal relationships, unrequited love or impending breakups. Very often various cryptic messages and suicidal signs appear in them.
The second album So Tonight That I Might See continued in a similar mood as the first, only blues appears only in some songs and the rock part of the songs looks softer.
The latest official album Among My Swan, is the most musically compact Mazzy Star album, contains very few sharp guitar parts and is also much less psychedelic. The album contains mainly simple, minor, romantic melodies, which, thanks to the extremely sad and resigned performance of the singer Hope Sandoval, especially in the song “Look On Down From The Bridge“, herald the end of this musical group.
