Megadeth: Peace Sells. But Who's Buying?
In 1986, thrash metal band Megadeth released their second album. Following a complex recording and remixing process, the band broke into the mainstream, with "Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?" selling over a million copies in the US alone.
Megadeth is an American heavy metal band formed in 1983 by guitarist/vocalist Dave Mustaine and bass guitarist Dave Ellefson. Mustaine wanted to create a faster and better band than Metallica, from which he was fired after beating up Metallica frontman James Hetfield so badly that he knocked out his front teeth. Since their formation, the band has released 13 studio albums. Megadeth are considered pioneers of the thrash metal movement, alongside the rest of the "big four" of thrash – Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax.
Their technical peak and most widely acclaimed album is 1990's Rust in Peace. It was the first album Mustaine recorded sober, and it featured talented guitar virtuoso Marty Friedman, with whom Mustaine formed a famous guitar duo. Friedman stayed with the band until 2001.
Over 28 active years, 20 people have been part of the band. Megadeth is known for lyrics covering politics, war, addiction, relationships and religion.
