Memoirs of a Psychologist
In 2017, the Stanford Historical Society Oral History produced recordings of interviews with leading contemporary psychologist Philip Zimbardo (b. 1933). In them, he recounts his rough Depression-era childhood in a New York slum with a family of Sicilian immigrants, his desire to study that took him from those circumstances to college, the beginnings of his psychology practice in an animal lab, and his friendship with Stanley Milgram.
He devotes a large part of the book to recalling the atmosphere at the university in the 1960s and 1970s and the circumstances, course and consequences of his world-famous Stanford experiment. But he is also involved in the following projects (research on shyness), his involvement in research on prison systems, the Abu Ghraib prison affair, and his lecturing activities around the world. The book not only provides a unique, vividly recounted, yet content-packed memoir of a prominent figure in world psychology, but also provides a broad insight into the history of the entire field in the 20th century.
Philip Zimbardo is one of the most famous contemporary psychologists in the world. He became famous among others. with his book The Lucifer Effect. The portal is about to publish his book Shyness. Daniel Hartwig is a historian, philosopher and archivist at Stanford University.
