Metros of the World
Residents of many cities around the world can no longer imagine that the metro is not an important part of public transport. The first line of the Underground Railway was built in London in 1863, followed by Budapest and Glasgow in 1896.
Subways gradually appeared on every continent. China and India are experiencing the biggest boom in metro line development today.
The book focuses on selected interesting metro systems around the world, from the point of view of the line management, the vehicles used, and the architecture of the transport structures. Of course, there is a short historical introduction and a technical description of the metro system in each country. There is also an overview of all the underground railways in the world with an explanation that these are "traditional" underground lines, not, for example, the "light rail" lines that are often mistakenly included in this area. We do not consider exclusively surface lines (sometimes also referred to as "subways") to be underground, nor do we consider combined systems of so-called train-trams, where only a certain part of the line is underground and they are also compatible with other tram transport. In the case of the "traditional" metro, all this is eliminated, as it runs on its own infrastructure with its own control system.
