Milan Kundera
Famous Czech writer in a personal portrait by a French journalist
Florence Noiville met Milan Kundera in his mature years — at a time when he had avoided the media for years, had long since let his work speak for itself, and enjoyed the world as a keen observer and attentive companion. During visits to the writer' s home, meetings in cafes and dinners together, from the stories of his wife Věra and his friends, as well as while reading his books, a changing image of Milan Kundera emerged before the author: Every new detail from his work, nostalgic pause, or unexpected remark illuminated him from a different angle, underscoring his intricate life and complex artistic legacy. In the stream of memories, literary trips, historical context, photographs and reflections, a multi-layered literary portrait of an exceptional person emerges before the reader, in which Florence Noiville attempts to capture his legacy and reflection — through writing. " What a ridiculous idea! " Milan Kundera himself commented.
