Mining widows

Authentic testimonies of eight women, miners' widows from the Ostrava-Karviná region, were heard and recorded by publicist Kamila Hladká for her book published in 2019. The oldest woman was 80 years old at the time of the book's publication (she lost her husband in 1961 at the Dukla mine), the youngest 36 (her husband died in 2013 at the ČSM mine).

The women tell not only their stories, the family history unfolds against the backdrop of the historical changes of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. This is not only the fate of the miners' widows, but also of the entire Ostrava-Karviná district.
