Moonshye: Curtain Of The Moon - CD

Singer, songwriter and guitarist Moonshye creates music that defies genre categorisation, with elements of folk and world music. Her songs are characterised by a diversity of vocal expression and atmosphere, with poetic lyrics. She comes from Silesia, where she has always been close to Poland. She also spent several years in the inspiring environment of the film city of Łódź, where she began performing solo in 2017. After returning to her native Beskydy Mountains, she continues to perform in the Czech Republic and Poland. The album Curtain of the Moon is about “birds, the night, the universe, water, wind... in the garden of the human soul.” The collection of ten songs is united by its genre-defying nature, with elements of world music and alternative folk, a diversity of vocal expression, song atmospheres, and musical instruments. Speaking about her inspiration, Moonshye says: “In my songs, I search for the beauty of the human soul through symbols from nature. I try to capture its light and dark sides, its desires, and its moments of elation and revelation. This is best illustrated by two tracks: the title track, Curtain of the Moon, is inspired by the moon; I am fascinated by its changeability and the fact that its beauty is often hidden from our eyes. The song Garden is about searching for this hiddenness—that which we cannot see. The soul is like a diverse garden that you can walk through, but also get lost in. And sometimes you discover something there that surprises you.” On the album, besides singing, Moonshye plays the guitar, array mbira and charango. She invited several excellent guest musicians to collaborate: multi-instrumentalists Pavel Šmíd—who is also the album's producer—and Joanna Szczęsnowicz, Daniel Šoltis on drums, Tomáš Liška on double bass, Antonín Fajt on synthesisers, Vladimír Prouza on electric guitar, Pavel Cingl on violin, Martin Píro on water calabash and Štěpán Podrazil on cymbals. Mix: Vojtěch Svatoš, mastering: Deaf Wizard.
