Robert Wiliam Gary Moore known as Gary Moore (4. April 1952, Belfast Northern Ireland - February 6, 2011, Estepona, Spain) was an Irish blues-rock guitarist. He began playing guitar at the age of eleven and became a member of the Dublin band Skid Row at sixteen.
After leaving the band, he founded the Gary Moore Band in 1973 and released his debut album Grinding Stone. A year later, he became a member of Thin Lizzy and recorded the album Night Life with them. He then joined Colosseum II and released Strange New Flesh and Electric Savage with them in the second half of the 1970s.
In 1978, he became independent, recording the album Back on the Streets, with singer, guitarist and bassist Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy. In 1979, the title track and ballad “Parisienne Walkways“ from this album first hit the charts.
After the album Back on the Streets, he returned to the band Thin Lizzy and collaborated on Black Rose. This was followed by a tour of the USA, which showed that although the musically hard rock band goes well with his Celtic-Irish melodic guitar, its wildness and occasional drug flights did not suit him. When disagreements culminated between them, he deliberately did not appear repeatedly for three concerts and received an hour' s resignation from the band' s manager.
In the early 80' s he founded the band G-Force and released an album of the same name, which was not very successful. He began playing solo again, recording Corridors of Power in 1982, followed by Victims of the Future. In 1985, he last collaborated with Phil Lynott on the anti-war song Out in the Fields, which is on a melodic album with Irish musical motifs Run for Cover.
In the early 1990s, he returned to the music that shaped him as a teenager, to the blues - rock music base. In 1990, he recorded the blues album Still Got the Blues, followed by After Hours and Blues Alive. After these albums, he teamed up with musicians from the former Cream trio, drummer Ginger Baker and singing bassist Jack Bruce. They released the album Around the Next Dream in 1994 under the name BBM (according to the initials of their surname).
The solo album Blues For Greeny comes from 1995, with which he paid tribute to the then seriously ill Peter Green, the founder and frontman of Fleetwood Mac. He died in his sleep on February 6, 2011 while on vacation in Spain.
