Mr Sartorio's houses
A comedy about the fact that the poverty trade flourishes in all times. G. B. Shaw wanted to create a modern play for the British theatre in 1885. He collaborated with William Archer, who wrote the outline, but after disagreements the collaboration ended. Seven years later, Shaw offered Widowers' Houses, known here as Mr. Sartorius's Houses, to the Independent Theatre, a rewritten version of the original project. It premiered in December, was performed twice, but was discussed in the press for a fortnight. It has become a subject of debate, polarising the world view. Shaw was satisfied. After his critical work, he found a new and far more incisive medium for his views. Persons and cast: Dr. Harry Trench (Milos Willig), William de Burg Cokane, his friend (Ladislav Navrátil), Sartorius (Bedřich Veverka), Blanche, his daughter (Blanka Vikusová), Lickcheese (Vojta Plachý-Tůma), maid (Tatiana Vavrintsova) and waiter (Vaclav Svec)Directed by: Evžen Sokolovský and Vladimír Procházka.
