Mrs. Dalloway

The famous novel in audiobook form is published on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of Virginia Woolf's birth The most famous work of the British author Virginia Woolf was written between 1922 and 1924. It was originally to be called The Clock, because the strikes of the Big Ben bell permeate the entire book as an awareness of the irrevocable passing of time, the transience of events. Another important external detail of the story are the flowers, which the author uses to illustrate the characters' traits. The story of one day of the main character, about to throw a party, is accompanied by descriptions of the feelings of her friends and acquaintances, at the same time as observing the movements of all involved around London, light detail recording, changes in nature, the sounds of the city. The author revealed that her book is simultaneously about the world seen through the eyes of the sane and the insane. Although one of the characters ends his life by suicide during the course of the narrative, the final impression of the work is a sense of joy in life, and as Martin Hilský writes in the afterword: the atmosphere of that beautiful June morning, when a tiny, grey-haired woman walks through the village with a bouquet of peas in her hand. "I am Mrs. Dalloway," she seemed to say, "catch me if you can. "
