Munchner Philharmoniker, Zubin Mehta: Die Schopfung (2x CD) - CD

The Munich Philharmonic has prepared a present for its honorary conductor Zubin Mehta on his 85th birthday, that the rest of us can enjoy with him, namely a double disc recording of Haydn's oratorio 'Creation', which they made together in June 2019. One of the key works of this genre, Moreover, with a distinct "Czech footprint" (official premiere, held in Vienna on 29 and 30 April 1798, was preceded by a private premiere for Prince František Josef Maxmilián of Lobkowitz at Jezeří Castle), has been released many times in the history of the recording industry, so there is a lot to compare it to. From the short excerpts available, Mehta's interpretation seems to lean more towards the side of a sweeping sonic fresco and full-blooded musical drama, rather than some delicately constructed intellectual concept, but let's be surprised by the end result.
