Muse: Resistance (2x LP) - LP

The Resistance is the fifth studio album by English rock band Muse, released in September 2009. It won Best Rock Album at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards.

First details about the direction of their next studio album emerged in 2007. Muse planned to give some songs a stronger electronic and dance feel, while opting for a classical or symphonic style with an orchestra for others. They also considered producing the new record themselves to avoid being restricted by a producer when choosing and arranging the tracks, which they ultimately did.

In January 2008, Bellamy told NME magazine that he was unsure about the format the recorded songs would take. He stated: "...we might create an album, maybe just singles, or it could even be a 50-minute symphony, you know what I mean? Who knows?..." In the interview, he also revealed that he would like to include his own fifteen-minute rock guitar solo on the new record. In the end, The Resistance takes a standard format of 11 separate tracks of normal length, although the final three tracks come together to form the extensive Exogenesis: Symphony, in which the band incorporates symphonic elements.

The album met with mostly positive reviews and reached number one in the charts across 19 countries. The album spawned the singles Uprising, Undisclosed Desires, Resistance, and a limited edition of Exogenesis: Symphony – a 13-minute track conceived as a symphony and divided into three parts.

For the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards (in 2011), the band received 3 nominations. The Resistance ultimately won the Best Rock Album category, while the song Resistance was unsuccessfully nominated for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
