My Family and Other Misunderstandings

This collection, which you are holding in your hand, finally presents the complete set of all the author's short stories about the Kraus family. On Kostelní Street in Letná, five children lived alongside their father, a survivor returned from the hell of the Nazi concentration camps, and their caring mother: the eldest, Ivan, a future writer; his brother Michael; Eliška; Kateřina; and the youngest, Jan. The micro-stories depict the absurdities of the oppressive post-war years and the human imperfections of the distinctive personalities in this family, tested by history and crammed into one small flat.
