N. V. Gogol.

Gogol's satirical comedy. A masterly typification of the middle class of 19th century Russian society. Listen to a gem of world drama. In the radio adaptation of The Marriage, made in 1982 by director Jan Lorman, In addition to Iva Janžurová in the lead role of Agata, the cast also includes Jiřina Jirásková as Aunt Arina, Dana Medřická as matchmaker Tekla, Jiří Hálek as Podkolatov, Jiří Sovák as Kočkarev and many other excellent actors. Thanks to the matchmaker Tekla, four suitors meet in the house of the aging and inquisitive Agata. Each of them brazenly pursues their own interests above all. The government councillor Podkolatov has his friend Kochkarev to help him. The other three, former Marine Lieutenant Zhvanikin, union chief Greedy and infantry officer v. v., now the merchant Onuchkin, must make do with his eloquence alone. A game full of big words but also cowardly gestures is being played. Hesitant Agatha is unable to make up her mind, so she flees from the whole company. It's hard to say if it was out of shame or stupidity, probably both.
