N. V. Gogol: Dead Souls

The story of Gogol's grotesquely realistic novel is - like his famous comedy The Reviser - based on a wonderful anecdote and a magical mystification. It is about the adventurous journey of the impoverished nobleman Chichikov, who thought to get rich by buying dead serfs on whom the landlords had to pay taxes until the next census. A radio reading to be continued, one of Karel Höger's last great appearances in front of a radio microphone.
