Nicholas, Duke of Opava

The young Duke Nicholas loses his role model and support in the battle on the Moravian Field when his father and the great Czech ruler Přemysl Otakar II dies right in front of his eyes. After years spent in captivity, his life is guided by inherited pride and responsibility, and the blue blood in his veins strengthens his duty to help his half-brother King Wenceslas. He finds his old love Mariana again, yet by marrying the Habsburg princess Adelheid he fulfils his duty as a nobleman and consolidates his position, because as the king's left-hand man he has no right to sit on the throne.
