The window of death: A detective story by former police officer Josef Mareš based on a true story
Former police officer and screenwriter Josef Mareš, best known for his TV series Cases of the 1st Department, was inspired by the sad story of a woman who died after falling out of a window in 2000.
"My supervisor at the time felt that I had been dealing with too many 'attractive cases' lately, so I was assigned the task of investigating the death of a lady who was being investigated by the local Kosíř department," Mareš recalls. "The case was exceptional mainly because of the reconstruction, including several investigative experiments that were carried out on site, that is, at a height of 27 metres. It differed from the case from the 'wild nineties' in that it did not involve a whole team of criminologists, but only one investigator. But that doesn't mean I solved it alone; many colleagues from other disciplines were involved. The file included forensic, psychiatric, psychological and biomechanical reports. Colleagues from the physiodetection, i.e. the lie detector, and of course from the video department also helped a lot. And I mustn't forget the firefighters, without whom the reconstruction would never have taken place," he adds.
