On a Wild Ride with Janis Joplin
Peggy Caserta was the founder of the famous Mnasidika boutique on Haight-Ashbury Street in San Francisco and a lover and friend to Janis Joplin. She was by her side at Woodstock, for example, and in this book, she tells Janis's story from the closest possible perspective. Musicians from Grateful Dead and Big Brother and the Holding Company would meet in her shop, posters by Wes Wilson hung on the walls, and Bill Graham sold concert tickets there. She is said to have inspired Levi's to produce bell-bottom jeans, helped popularise the term "hippies," and was the only non-musician to be helicoptered into the Woodstock festival. Her life is the story of an entire generation. Her book offers a testimony to a world of psychedelic peace, love, LSD, heroin addiction, prison, and despair. After Janis Joplin's death, she was hated and considered a traitor. Many years later, having overcome her addictions, she returned home to care for her mother, who had dementia. Caserta
