The fourth book from the two-time winner of the Jiří Marek Award for best Czech detective story
On the remote Dutch island of Schiermonnikoog, with its deserted sandy beaches lashed by the north wind, a young woman died in the dunes under mysterious circumstances. Eleven years later, her killer remains at large.
Television reporter Johan Rutten has decided to launch a new series of reports on unsolved murders with this case—but shortly after arriving on the island, he is murdered. Is the same person responsible for both crimes? Several people could have benefited from the wealthy Johan Rutten's death. For example, his Czech wife, a court translator, who now stands to inherit his entire estate.
At her suggestion, criminal investigator Josef Bergman travels to the island. He wants to spend a holiday on Schiermonnikoog, clear his head of worries, and make an important life decision. However, he is soon unwillingly drawn into the complex case.
